part 2
The explanation came later.
Apparently, my boss had come in on her day off. Apparently, she always looked terrifying before caffeine. Apparently, I was now known as “the employee who almost tackled management.”
Word spread fast.
Too fast.
By lunchtime, everyone had a nickname for me.
“Security.”
“Hero.”
“Overreactor-in-Chief.”
My boss felt bad—she really did. She bought ice cream for the whole team as a peace offering, which helped. A little.
But the damage was done.
For weeks, every time the door opened too fast, someone would gasp dramatically. If anyone wore a hoodie, the room went silent. If a paper fell, someone would yell, “NOT AGAIN!”
Even customers got involved.
One pointed at the back office and asked,
“Is that where the robber came from?”
I nodded solemnly.
In the end, I learned two things:
-
Never judge a situation before coffee.
-
Ice cream fixes almost everything—but not your reputation.
Still… at least it made a great story.
