⚡ EVERYONE FROZE… EXCEPT ME
Part 3: The Choice
I couldn’t breathe.
The tall one stood in front of me.
The others didn’t move anymore.
Didn’t even twitch.
Like they were waiting.
“For what…?” I whispered.
The tall figure tilted its head.
Its shape shifted slightly, like smoke trying to hold a human form.
“For you.”
My chest tightened.
“Why me?! I didn’t do anything!”
Silence.
Then—
“Exactly.”
I frowned, confused. “What does that even mean?!”
The figure stepped closer.
The air grew heavier.
Harder to breathe.
“Humans move through time without awareness.”
“They do not question it.”
“They do not see it.”
It paused.
“But you…”
The room felt like it was closing in.
“…you noticed.”
My heart pounded.
“I just… woke up. That’s all.”
“No.”
The word hit harder than anything else.
“You didn’t wake up.”
A long pause.
“You slipped.”
Cold ran through my body.
“Slipped… into what?”
The figure raised its hand.
And suddenly—
The world around me shattered.
Not physically.
But like a broken screen.
Cracks of light spread through everything.
The classroom.
The frozen students.
The sky.
Everything was… fake.
“What… is this?” I whispered.
“Time is not what you think it is.”
The cracks widened.
And beyond them—
I saw something impossible.
Endless layers.
Moments stacked on top of each other.
Like pages in a book.
“Every second exists at once.”
“Humans simply experience it… one piece at a time.”
My head spun.
“So… this… this isn’t real?”
“It is real.”
“But incomplete.”
The figure stepped closer.
“You are between moments.”
Silence.
“And… them?” I asked, pointing at the frozen people.
“Paused.”
“And you?”
A pause.
“We observe.”
My stomach dropped.
“Observe… what?”
The answer came slowly.
“Which humans are ready.”
A chill ran down my spine.
“Ready for what?”
The figure leaned closer.
Closer than anything had ever been.
“To see the truth.”
Silence.
Then—
“Or to be erased.”
My heart stopped.
“Erased…?”
The smaller shadows shifted slightly again.
Like reminders.
“Mistakes are removed.”
I shook my head, backing away.
“I’m not a mistake…”
The figure studied me.
Long.
Quiet.
Then it spoke.
“No.”
A pause.
“You are something else.”
Everything went still.
“A choice.”
The word echoed.
“What kind of choice?” I asked.
The cracks in reality spread wider.
The frozen world flickered.
“Return.”
The word hit like a command.
“Forget everything.”
“Live as humans do.”
“Blind.”
My chest tightened.
“And the other option?”
Silence.
Then—
“Stay.”
The shadows around me shifted.
The world beyond the cracks expanded.
Endless.
Dark.
Infinite.
“See everything.”
“Understand time.”
“Become like us.”
My heart raced.
“But… I won’t be human anymore… right?”
No answer.
I already knew.
I looked around.
At the frozen classroom.
My friends.
My life.
Then beyond it.
At the cracks.
At the truth.
Two choices.
Safe.
Or real.
Normal.
Or everything.
My hands trembled.
“What happens… if I refuse both?” I asked quietly.
For the first time—
The figure didn’t answer immediately.
Then slowly…
“That is not possible.”
Silence filled the room.
My decision had to be now.
I closed my eyes.
Took a deep breath.
And said—
“I choose…”
—
—
The clock started ticking again.
Tick.
Tick.
Tick.
I was back in my seat.
The classroom was normal.
The teacher was talking.
The pen lay on the floor.
Everything…
Was normal.
I gasped and looked around wildly.
“What just—?”
“Are you okay?” someone asked.
I froze.
Everything was fine.
Too fine.
Slowly…
I looked down at my hand.
And my heart stopped.
Because for just a second—
My shadow moved…
before I did.
